they are only calculated from the reported points (the less points
reported the shorter distance made).

Data are received automatically, thanks to a special device
from our partners at Guardian Mobility. We wrote software collecting and
reporting data. The collecting part is general and not specific to our
expedition, and it is available for everybody as Open Source
Software.
